Title: Eastern Waters & Highlands: A 3-Day Nile & Sipi Falls Escape
Experience the dual magic of Uganda’s water wonders. This curated journey takes you from the thundering cascades of Mount Elgon to the historic birthplace of the world’s longest river.
- Day 1: The Journey East – From Kampala to the Sipi Escarpment
- We pick you up from your hotel in Kampala and begin our scenic drive east towards the lush foothills of Mount Elgon. The route winds through the historic town of Lugazi, where we stop briefly at Sezibwa Falls to enjoy the cascading waters and learn about its deep cultural significance in Buganda tradition. Continuing through the rich biodiversity of Mabira Rainforest, we cross the mighty Nile River via the iconic Nile bridge, marking our transition into Uganda’s eastern highlands.
- We arrive in Sipi in the late afternoon, just as the light softens to golden hour. Here you’ll take a relaxed community and coffee‑plantation walk through the terraced slopes of the Bugisu region, meeting local farmers and exploring the steps of coffee production. The day ends with a fresh pot of world‑class Bugisu Arabica coffee, savoured against the backdrop of rolling hills and dramatic waterfalls—an unforgettable introduction to eastern Uganda’s natural and cultural beauty.
- Day 2: The Triple Falls Adventure – Hiking, Heights & Hidden Art
- Set off on a guided trek through the Sipi escarpment to explore all three breathtaking Sipi waterfalls, each tumbling down the face of Mount Elgon with its own unique charm. The trail winds through coffee‑covered slopes, rock formations, and panoramic viewpoints, offering plenty of photo opportunities and a genuine sense of wilderness. For the more adventurous, there is an optional 100‑meter abseil down the cliff alongside the main waterfall (activity and price not included in the standard package).
- In the afternoon, we drive to the Nyero Rock Paintings in Kumi District, Uganda’s largest and most significant collection of ancient rock art, where you’ll learn about the spiritual and cultural heritage of the region’s early inhabitants. Later, we continue to Jinja, where we check in at a Nile‑front resort for an overnight stay. Unwind by the river, enjoy dinner with views of the Nile, and rest up before the next day’s Source‑of‑the‑Nile adventures.
- Day 3: Source of the Nile & Jinja Spirit. Return to Jinja, the “Adventure Capital” of Uganda, for a full‑day experience packed with action and iconic sights.
- Start the morning with an adrenaline‑filled abseiling session at Busowoko, where you’ll rappel down a rocky face for about two hours under the supervision of experienced guides—perfect for thrill‑seekers who want to feel the rush of heights and rope work beside the Nile. Afterward, take a refreshing breather with a guided quad bike ride through the surrounding trails, enjoying dusty tracks, river glimpses, and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
- In the afternoon, embark on a private boat tour to the Source of the Nile, cruising along the calm waters where Lake Victoria spills into the mighty Nile River. Step ashore at the monument area and stand exactly at the point long known as the “source,” soaking in the history, spirituality, and significance of this legendary spot.
- Later, we begin the drive back either to Entebbe (with drop‑off at the airport or your hotel) or directly to your hotel in Kampala, marking the end of your Sipi Falls and Nile adventure with a relaxed journey under the setting East African sun.
