Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe and Photography Briefing
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, where you will be welcomed by a GS Uganda Safaris representative and transferred to your lakeside hotel.
In the evening, enjoy a safari briefing with your guide. The discussion will cover the route, expected weather, wildlife behavior, local lighting conditions, equipment protection, and photography opportunities throughout the journey.

Day 2: Shoebill Photography in Mabamba Swamp
After an early breakfast, travel to Mabamba Swamp for a sunrise canoe excursion. Explore the quiet papyrus channels in search of the iconic Shoebill, one of Uganda’s most sought-after bird species.
You may also photograph kingfishers, herons, papyrus gonoleks, swamp flycatchers, water lilies, and other wetland species. The calm waters and open canoe design provide excellent opportunities for low-angle photography.
Return to Entebbe in the afternoon. Depending on the weather and light, enjoy an optional sunset photography session along the shores of Lake Victoria.

Day 3: Rhino Tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
After breakfast, drive north to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. On arrival, take part in a guided walking rhino-tracking experience.
The sanctuary offers the opportunity to photograph white rhinoceroses at eye level in a natural savannah environment. You may also encounter antelopes, birds, wetlands, and other wildlife during the experience.
Continue to Masindi for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Murchison Falls and Nile Landscapes
Continue to Murchison Falls National Park, photographing rural landscapes, local communities, villages, and changing countryside along the route.
In the afternoon, visit the top of Murchison Falls, where the River Nile is forced through a narrow gorge before plunging into the valley below. This dramatic setting is ideal for wide-angle landscape compositions, water-motion images, and panoramic photography.

Day 5: Sunrise and Golden-Hour Game Drives
Rise early for a sunrise game drive across the northern sector of Murchison Falls National Park. The soft morning light is ideal for photographing wildlife and savannah landscapes.
Possible sightings include lions, leopards, elephants, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, hartebeests, oribis, warthogs, jackals, and numerous bird species.
After a midday rest at the lodge, return to the park for an afternoon and golden-hour game drive. The route will remain flexible to follow wildlife activity and the best available light.

Day 6: Nile Delta Boat Safari
Take a morning boat cruise along the River Nile toward the Nile Delta. The riverbanks offer excellent opportunities to photograph hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, waterbirds, and other wildlife.
The Delta is also a productive area for bird photography and may provide an opportunity to search for the Shoebill, depending on seasonal conditions and wildlife movements.
Enjoy a flexible afternoon game drive based on current wildlife activity and photographic conditions.

Day 7: Scenic Journey to Kibale Forest
Depart Murchison Falls and travel southwest toward Kibale Forest National Park. The journey passes through rolling countryside, tea plantations, crater lakes, rural villages, and the scenic landscapes around Fort Portal.
Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon. Time permitting, use the remaining daylight for forest-edge bird photography, lodge photography, or landscape images around the crater-lake region.

Day 8: Chimpanzee Tracking and Bigodi Wetland
After breakfast, enter Kibale Forest for chimpanzee tracking. The forest is home to chimpanzees and several other primate species, including red colobus monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and mangabeys.
Photography in the forest requires patience, fast lenses, and high ISO settings because of the dense vegetation and limited natural light. Wildlife sightings and photographic opportunities depend on animal behavior and forest conditions.
In the afternoon, explore Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. The guided walk offers opportunities to photograph primates, forest birds, butterflies, vegetation, wetlands, and community life.

Day 9: Crater Lakes and the Kasenyi Plains
Travel through Uganda’s beautiful crater-lake region toward Queen Elizabeth National Park. Along the way, stop to photograph crater lakes, tea plantations, rural villages, terraced hills, and—weather permitting—the Rwenzori Mountains.
Arrive in Queen Elizabeth National Park in time for a late-afternoon game drive across the Kasenyi Plains. The open savannah provides opportunities to photograph Uganda kobs, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and other wildlife in warm evening light.

Day 10: Sunrise Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Cruise
Begin with an early-morning game drive across the Kasenyi Plains. Search for lions, hyenas, elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, leopards, warthogs, and a variety of savannah birds.
In the afternoon, take a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. The channel attracts large numbers of hippos, elephants, buffaloes, crocodiles, pelicans, fish eagles, kingfishers, and other waterbirds.
The boat provides a stable platform for photographing wildlife along the shoreline and capturing animals in and around the water.

Day 11: Ishasha Tree-Climbing Lions and Bwindi
Travel through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions. Enjoy a game drive in search of lions resting in fig trees, elephants, buffaloes, topi, and other wildlife.
Continue through the dramatic Kigezi Highlands toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The route offers beautiful views of terraced hills, forested ridges, winding roads, and rural communities.

Day 12: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi
After an early breakfast, report to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. You will then enter Bwindi’s atmospheric mountain forest accompanied by experienced guides and trackers.
Once a habituated gorilla family is located, you will spend the regulated viewing period observing and photographing the gorillas from a respectful distance. Photography opportunities may include portraits, family interactions, feeding behavior, and the surrounding forest environment.
The forest can be dark, humid, and wet. A fast lens, high ISO capability, spare batteries, and weather protection for camera equipment are strongly recommended.

Day 13: Lake Bunyonyi Landscapes
Enjoy a relaxed morning for forest-edge bird photography or rest after the gorilla trek. Later, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi, a scenic highland lake surrounded by terraced hills and numerous small islands.
In the evening, take an optional canoe excursion to photograph traditional fishing boats, island landscapes, reflections, terraced slopes, and silhouettes during sunset.

Day 14: Final Photography Session and Departure
Enjoy a final morning photography session overlooking Lake Bunyonyi. After breakfast, begin your return journey.
Depending on your international flight schedule, you may choose one of the following options:
- Transfer by road to Entebbe for your international flight.
- Continue across the border to Kigali, Rwanda, for a shorter connection to Kigali International Airport.
- Add an extra overnight stop if your departure flight requires more time.
Photography stops may be arranged along the route, subject to the available time and road conditions.

Recommended Photography Gear Camera bodies and lenses
- Two camera bodies are recommended to reduce the need to change lenses in dusty savannah environments or humid forests.
- A 100–400mm or 200–600mm lens is ideal for predators, rhinos, giraffes, wetland birds, and distant wildlife.
- A fast 70–200mm f/2.8 lens is recommended for chimpanzee and gorilla photography in low-light forest conditions.
- A 16–35mm or 24–70mm wide-angle lens is useful for Murchison Falls, Lake Bunyonyi, forest scenes, and cultural photography.
Power and storage
- Bring three to four spare batteries for each camera body.
- Pack high-capacity, high-speed memory cards for extended RAW shooting.
- Carry a portable hard drive or reliable backup device for daily image storage.
- Vehicle charging facilities should be confirmed before travel, and a universal travel adapter is recommended.
Weather and equipment protection
- Bring rain covers or waterproof sleeves for camera bodies and lenses.
- Pack a dry bag to protect equipment during boat cruises and forest treks.
- Carry a blower bulb, lens cloths, cleaning wipes, and dust-protection accessories.
- A beanbag is useful for stabilizing long lenses on the vehicle.
- Heavy tripods are generally impractical during game drives but may be useful at selected lodges.

Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed and depend on animal movements, weather, season, and local conditions.Gorilla and chimpanzee photography must follow all park regulations and guide instructions.
Gorilla and chimpanzee permits are subject to availability and should be secured well in advance.
- The itinerary can be adjusted for birding, additional game drives, extra photography time, accommodation preferences, or a specialist photographic guide.
- Lake Mburo National Park is not included in this version of the itinerary. It can be added by extending the safari or replacing one of the existing destinations.
