Conservation according to the Oxford Dictionary means to preserve, to protect, maintain, safeguard and
perpetuate anything of importance and when it comes to conservation of nature, to be specific
conservation for tourism, for present and future generation, it should be Conservation in totality at
Conservation suggests that what is being preserved or conserved has intrinsic value or worth that
cannot be substituted for anything else or obtained from anything else and when it comes to
conservation of nature, to be specific conservation of the Rippon Falls for tourism, for present and
future generation, it should be preserved totally.
Because every species or physical feature is unique and provides a unique satisfaction to the person
experiencing it. It is this combination of different species of animals, plants, physical features, climate,
culture to mention but a few that tourists spend their time and money to come to Uganda.
Hence reducing that one major tourism feature of Murchison Falls National Park which is the falls will be
a retrogressive statement by Uganda which will mark the beginning of a backward and no return journey
in destroying heritage, Tourism and conservation in Uganda.
The Murchison falls are such a heritage of World tourism importance that you cannot develop the Uhuru
Falls which is a few meters away without affecting the Murchison Falls themselves.
Uganda was announced the best tourism destination in the world in 2015 and the falls contributed
tremendously to this realization. The expected response from government and stakeholders then would
be how to harness the already flourishing tourism sector so that it performs optimally and help
Uganda’s Tourism sector to flourish and grow
Even if Uganda needs more electricity, the give-away of Murchison falls will not provide a sustainable
solution to meet all the electricity needs that Uganda needs.
The decision that was taken by the government was reactionary and unfortunate hence the Cabinet
needs to imagine, compare and rethink a future where we have another source of electricity with
Murchison falls still in place too because growth cannot be measured by looking at only what one has
gained ignoring what shall be lost especially the Murchison Falls
It is better to build on what we found and have than destroying it because Murchison Falls National Park
earns the country good foreign exchange and it gives the citizens jobs with no value addition needed to
The Murchison Falls is a finished product, and the ministry of Tourism should strategically think of how
to market and promote the falls to the entire world as a tourism destination because it is a world
wonder where the waters of the mighty Nile River squeeze through a passage of fewer than 7 metres
This wonder of creation that is so rare, amazing and so wonderful to behold with a beautiful scenery
that just overwhelms the viewer with an appreciation of nature and beauty should be conserved and
protected for the future generation and tourism because the Rippon Falls are the only surviving falls on
the River Nile.
