Airport pickups and drops from Entebbe international airport
On the shores of Lake Victoria is found Entebbe town which is the place of Uganda’s international airport. The pickups and drops/drive from or to Kampala is about an hour in light traffic, and more than two hours when it congested.
Getting to Entebbe by plane
Entebbe International Airport is Uganda’s sole air gateway and as such is served by several African and international airlines.
The airport taxis and other private means are abundant in the parking lot outside the terminal. Security keeps all vehicles away from the terminal proper, so when departing you have to walk from the parking lot up the upper roadway for departures.
A special-hire taxi from Entebbe airport to Entebbe town costs USh 15,000, or you can walk to the airport gate which is 500m and get a Boda-boda motorbike taxi to Entebbe town for USh 5000
Getting to and away from Entebbe to the rest of Uganda will usually involve passing through Kampala. And there are three transport means one can use these are the private taxis, bodaboda motorcycles and matatus or Small minibuses which go to and from Entebbe. The journey takes about 45 minutes on the Kampala express way the new road linking Kampala to Entebbe which is much quicker. You can also take the minibus which are found in the minibus stations near to the Kampala central market.
Modes of transport used to get by
There are three modes of public transport: boda-bodas, matatu and special hires.
The Boda-boda refers to 2 wheeled motorcycles it is the fastest and most dangerous means of transport. You can get almost anywhere on the back of one for USh 2000 to 5000, but on must make sure that they agree on the fare before the ride begins.
The Matatus are a series of licensed minibus taxis that follow relatively pre-set routes all over town (and many other parts of the country). It might be a bit confusing in the beginning on how to use the matatus to efficiently get where you want to go, but it’s really not so difficult. The routes are usually between the matutu. The matatus will stand in the park until they are full, something that normally takes less than 15 minutes, but can take over half an hour. Each vehicle is licensed to carry 14 people and the normal fare is UGX 5,000 per person from Entebbe to Kampala. Going with a matatu is generally a cheap, safe, slow and nice way to travel.
By special hire
If you aren’t up for the thrill of the bodas and don’t have time for a matatu, then airport taxis or saloon car taxis also called special hires are readily available both at the airport parking lot or near the matatu park. Be sure to agree on the fare before you get in the car or you may be in for a nasty shock. Don’t be afraid to haggle either; most destinations can be reached for USh 10,000 or 15,000 depending on your bargain
